Synspective Webinar Series: A First Step into Analyzing SAR Data: Fundamentals of StriX Satellite Products and Formats
“I've downloaded the sample data, but I don't fully understand the difference between SLC and GRD.” “I want to know how to programmatically process the parameters included in the XML metadata.”
This technical webinar is designed to answer these common questions by explaining the fundamental specifications and formats of StriX satellite data from the ground up.
In the first half, we will review the features of Synspective's small SAR satellite, "StriX," and outline the resolution differences across its four imaging modes (Stripmap, Sliding Spotlight, Staring Spotlight, and Spotlight Enhanced). We will then break down the various processing levels—CPHD, SLC, GRD, SR-GRD, and ORT—to help you understand which one you should choose based on your specific objectives.
The second half is a practical deep-dive tailored for developers. We will clarify the file structures of SLC (CEOS/SICD formats) and GRD (GeoTIFF + XML) products, as well as Quick Look and JPEG images. From there, we will explain how to read and interpret essential parameters in the XML metadata, such as the latitude/longitude of the observation center, observation time, noise equivalent sigma zero (NESZ), and calibration coefficients. Furthermore, we will demonstrate the radiometric calibration process for converting DN values to backscattering coefficients using calibration factors, complete with a live demonstration in QGIS.
In just 60 minutes, you will systematically learn "how to read the data" to ensure smooth SAR data analysis and system integration. We look forward to seeing you there!
